However, for the sake of privacy, I prefer to hide my active status on Facebook Messenger. At times, I keep on chatting with close friends until late at night. To prevent anyone from finding out that I stay awake so late, I take advantage of this feature to conceal my online Facebook status. What’s more, it also kind of stops anyone from unnecessarily pinging me. If you belong to the same school of thought, you are better off without this feature. Let me show you how you can take control of it!
How to Turn OFF or ON Active Status in Messenger on iPhone
Step #1. Open Facebook Messenger on your device. → Tap on your profile icon at the top left corner. Step #2. Next, tap on Active Status. Step #3. Turn off the “Show when you are active” toggle. Next up, a popup will appear asking for your confirmation. Hit Turn Off. That’s pretty much it! Going forward; no one will be able to see your last seen status on Facebook Messenger. Nor will you be able to view others’ status from here. Keep in mind; you will have to disable this feature every place you are using Facebook or Messenger. Otherwise, you will continue to appear active or recently active. For instance, if you are using Messenger on the web, you will have to turn it off there as well. Head over to messenger.com → click on Cog icon → Settings → toggle off the switch and click on Done to confirm. To turn off the Active Status from the Facebook app, launch the app on your device → tap on menu button→ tap on Settings & Privacy→ Settings (on your Android device, tap on App Settings) Active Status → In the end, turn off the toggle. To disable it on facebook.com using the web, click on the gear menu at the bottom right of the chat sidebar and then click on Turn Off Active Status. Later, if you wish to allow everyone to view your presence on Facebook, all you need to do is follow the same steps mentioned and then turn ON the toggle in the end. Wrapping Up… So, now that you know how to conceal your online privacy while using Facebook, make sure to take advantage of it. Of course, you won’t be able to view others’ presence as well, but I think the trade-off is worth. Check out the following articles as well:
